I got an exam in adult school today.
It was about American history and a brief oral report.

So, we learned some historic stories during one and a half month.

I learned the Native Americans, the Colonists, the Declaration of Indepedence and the U.S. Constitution.
It was interested but some words were difficult ...

Anyway, I presented to Martin Luther King, Jr. for my report.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929.
He was a Baptist minister and the great leader in the African American civil rights movement. He is best known for using nonviolent method following the teaching of Gandi.

He worked Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955.
The boycott lasted 382 days. On December 21, 1956, the Supreme Court of the United States had declared unconstitutional the laws requiring segregation on buses, Negroes and Whites rode the buses as equals. During these days of boycott, he was arrested, his home was bombed. After that, he was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

I picked him because he is one of the greatest orators in American history.
My major is Mass Communicatio. So, I watched his speech several times.
The title is "I have a Dream." This speech was delivered on Washington D.C., of 250,000 people in 1963. he conferred with President John F. Kennedy.

He became the youngest person to received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation in 1964.

He would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.

But he was assassinated(killed) on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Even he might know about that he will be killed. Because I read an article about his last sermon. He just wanted to remember as a person who worked on ending racialism and violence.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was established as a U.S. federal holiday in 1986.
We celebrate him on the third Monday in January.

Now, the United States has Obama as the president of U.S.
Martin Luther King, Jr. might be really glad to hear it in the heaven.
His dream(I have a Dream) became a truth.
Now everybody sits together, eats together and votes together.
