Plagiarism

If you steal someone’s idea or created things (writing, art works etc) for as your work, it is plagiarism.

For example, you find some researches on web sites, when you do your homework or any writing works, and then if you might  do not note use quotations about those web sites URL, title, date and authors. That is you do plagiarism. It is definitely illegal.

If you are a student, you might be lost lose your points because of plagiarism. You had better take care of doing not plagiarism plagiarizing. You can check to avoid it by using a plagiarism checker program on online. You can down load a free program on a web site. It might help you.

Each school has rules of about plagiarism, and you should concern about those rules for your papers. Even it is hard to pay attention you should accept them. That’s the right way in here.

I found a web-site that explains about plagiarism for college students.

The author is Ronald B. Standler. The title is “Plagiarism in Colleges in USA” in 2000. (1)

He is very strict about plagiarism. He said, “In minor cases, it can be the quotation of a sentence or two, without quotation marks and without a citation (e.g., footnote) to the true author.” (by Standler, 2000)(2)

He wrote about “indicia of a quotation”.

“When using another person’s words, to avoid plagiarism one must always do both of the following:

1.      Provide a citation, either in the text or in a footnote, and

2.      Either enclose their words inside quotation marks or put their words in a block of indented, single-spaced text. ” (by Standler, 2000)(2)

He also wrote about “The law of Plagiarism”. (by Standler, 2000)(3)

He said “The owner of the copyright could sue the plagiarist in federal court for violation of the copyright.” (by Standler, 2000)(3)

That is infringement of copyright. Even though you noted about the author and quotations, if you did not get approval from the copyrighter, you could be a plagiarist.

The writer who wrote about “plagiarism in colleges in USA” maintains strongly college rules for students to be “a legal offense”. He said “Colleges certainly have the authority to punish plagiarists in various ways.” (by Standler, 2000)(3)

It is too scary to me.

Therefore my opinion about plagiarism is,

This country has a lot of rules about writing and report. When I did do my homework for classes, I had to care of think about plagiarism. It made me feel scared. I usually try to do my best in my homework. Even though I wrote a lot of quotations on my report and made reference very well. But I was not sure, I did well about my homework or just  tried to avoid plagiarism. I can’t understand well, why it makes me really serious about writing. I have never tried to copy someone’s ideas. though, it is hard to take care of regulations. There are lots of rules to follow to right way in here.

One of our books is APA. That’s the best of my painful to make right reports. There are really many regulations. How can I remember them? And how many students is their feel knocked down by them? It really helps author’s property. I know it. But it also presses others feel nervous. This opinion is not about exact my homework. But that’s my feeling about plagiarism. It really makes me crazy about homework. Even though I can not understand English essays and articles, I should check about my sentences and grammar, avoid plagiarism and follow APA rules. It really takes long time. I’m an international student. That’s the feeling about plagiarism in my report.
